‘Replacements’ demo card

Hey Bloggers! Today I would like to share my second demo card from the Sherlock Holmes Shows. This show cases a technique using the ‘Replacements’ embossing folder and Aluminium Foil Insulation Tape. Did I mention this was my all time favourite embossing folder to work with?! lol

I firstly cut a piece of scrap cardstock to fit inside the Replacements embossing folder. I then took some of the Aluminium Foil Insulation tape and cut it up into small squares and rectangles and peeled of the backing to stick on to the cardstock in a patchwork pattern. This tape can be sometimes difficult to find in DIY stores so I would recommend just buying some of ebay. Once all the cardstock is covered with the tape, take a black biro and start creating small scores lines around the joins of the tape, this gives the impression of the sheet metal look we are trying to achieve. Next you need to place the cardstock into the embossing folder and emboss through the Grand Calibur. Now for the messy part…take some Black Acrylic Paint and paint over the Insulation tape. Note:I find it easier to do one half first. Make sure you really get the paint into all of the grooves of the embossing folder design. Then take a piece of kitchen roll and gently swipe over the wet paint, removing the surface coat but keeping some of the paint within the grooves of the embossing folder design. Note: When swiping the kitchen roll make sure you stick to straight lines, because this will create the brushed metal texture.

The same process was used to create the crown on the card, Spellbinder Nested Crowns, and then I stamped the phrase ‘Time Flies’ in the centre from the Time Flies stamp set. I also created a faux nesty of the crown in black cardstock to make the crown stand out more. To finish I stamped the background with the ‘Clocks’ background stamp onto Kraft Cardstock and then layered a piece of chicken wire over the top. I stamped the phrase ‘Learn from yesterday, Live for today, Hope for tomorrow’ (also from the Time Flies stamp set) onto another spellbinder labels shape and added some brads and faux screw brads around the edges. I also added one of each size of the new Glass Vials, which I filled up with old watch parts.

All for now, S@m x
